This post covers how to enable needle sweep (also known as staging) on the Golf mk6 GTD.

This coding enables the instrument needle sweep on start-up. Like this…

This is actually done through an adaptation setting rather than a change of coding. For coding, I always recommend making a backup of the module’s code before starting. Making a backup of adaptations is different. I’ll cover that in another post shortly.

For now, please make a written note of any adaptation changes you make before starting.

It’s called “Staging” in VCDS.

  1. Open VCDS
  2. Select control module “17-Instruments”
  3. Use the “Adaptation-10” button on the right.
  4. Click on the “Channel” dropdown box arrow to open the list of available adaptations.
  5. Scroll down to “IDE01087 – Staging” and select this.
  6. The list will close and show just “IDE01087 – Staging”.
  7. The “Stored Value” in the box below shows the current setting.
  8. This will either say “No” if the needle sweep is not enabled or “Yes” if it is.
  9. To change the setting, clock on the drop down arrow on the “New Value” box below.
  10. Then select “Yes” or “No”
  11. And click on “Do It!”
  12. VCDS will ask you to confirm the change. Click “Yes”.

If this has worked, VCDS will confirm with a message.

You can then use Go Back as needed and close VCDS if you’re finished.

This adaptation is widely covered on the Web and Youtube etc, so I’ll link to one of those guides below rather than trying to reinvent that wheel:

This is for a Seat Leon, but the process is the same on the Golf mk6 GTD.
